If you are a calm family looking for a companion cat who is content to lie on laps or next to you and just soak in your love and attention, you need look no further! Yosemite, affectionately called YoYo, is a 7-10 year old, ginger Maine Coon mix boy.  He is fully vetted, including neuter and vaccinations and has no symptoms of the FIV with which he was diagnosed following his rescue. (For more information about Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) please read this article  FIV Positive Cat Information). As a senior cat, he would likely do best in a quieter home. One or two cats are not an issue. He gets along well with the Great Pyrenees mix dog in his foster home. He has not been around young children.

Yoyo is quiet and dignified.  He was understandably shy and withdrawn when first arriving but has come out of his shell in just a few weeks.  He responds equally well to both the male and female in the household; he sleeps with them in their bed settled among 2-3 other cats that also sleep there.

YoYo’s STORY – YoYo was a beloved pet of an elderly local woman. According to the woman's caregiver of 6 years, she had him at least that long.  He would curl up in her lap for daily brushing, and would go outdoors on occasion in daytime hours, but always returned to sleep with her in the bed.  The owner died in Sept. 2021, and YoYo and a second cat were left outdoors and homeless. The owner's caregiver knew of their plight and repeatedly tried to secure them.  She made weekly visits to the home (a 45 min drive) with a 13# bag of cat food she left open for them.  On 3/19/22 she saw that he was debilitated and had lost significant weight.  She was able to secure him and brought him to my cat rescue, Just One Generation, in Frametown, WV, for care and placement assistance.  At that time, he had a foul purulent discharge from the right ear.  Vet evaluation the next day revealed infection secondary to a polyp.  His triple screen showed the +FIV status, but all general lab work looked good and he showed no other evidence of active disease.  The polyp was surgically removed on 3/22/22, and he returned to my home for foster care.  As rescue program director, I have a number of other cats in my home.  While YoYo is tolerant of most, there is an occasional personality dispute with some of the other altered males.  His appetite has significantly improved, and he has regained most of the lost weight.  All he needs now is a loving home to share companionship and spend his senior years.

YoYo is now an indoor only cat.
